Ok here are a few facts

  • She was launched in Sept 1996 and handed over to the US Navy in July 1998
  • 1,096 feet long and 251 feet wide gives a flight deck area of 4.5 acres
  • Powered by 2 nuclear reactors
  • Top speed of over 30 knots
  • Crewed by 5,200 men and women when aircrafts are aboard.
  • She carries more than 80 aircrafts
  • Each anchor weighs 30 tons and she has 2 of them attached to 1000 feet of chain.
  • More than 18,000 meals are served each day.
  • The US navy have 10 of these at a cost of over $5 billion each.
She is now on her way back to Norfolk Virginia, with her battle fleet, after a six-month tour including four months in the Gulf supporting operations in the Gulf.
