MARTIN JOHNSON

All the members of Eyott Sailing Club were shocked and desperately sad to learn of the sudden death of Martin on Saturday the 18th March. He was a dedicated member of our club and an expert Heron sailor, winning many races and awards each year. He was always there at the start and finish line whenever we raced.

As a keen supporter of the Heron Class Martin regularly represented the club at open meetings with his son Alexander. This year photos of them both were featured on the Heron stand at the Dinghy Show. They show clearly how much he enjoyed his sport.

Club members always sought his advice and help was freely given. He willingly lent a hand whenever the club needed support and particularly enjoyed taking visitors out on the water to share his love of sailing.

Only last Sunday we were all chatting in the clubhouse about how much we had enjoyed the first race of the season and how we were looking forward to the rest of the year. It seems inconceivable that we will not see him again. He will be sorely missed by his family and the club.

To Sylvia, Alexander and his family we offer our deepest sympathies and all the support we can give.

By Alan Brunning, Commodore of Eyott sailing Club.
